Children with visual impairment or blindness are eligible for services from the HHS Blind Children’s Vocational Discovery and Employment Program.
This program can:
- Help your child develop the confidence and skills to be an active part of the community
- Help you understand your rights and responsibilities throughout the educational process
- Help you find additional resources
Ask for a Blind Children’s Program Specialist when you contact this program. The specialist will work with you and your child to help you get support, information, and training. Services are coordinated with ECI and the school district.
The HHS Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHHS) Specialist Program provides specialized services to individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. Deafness Resource Specialists and Hearing Loss Resource Specialists can help parents locate resources, act as liaisons between parents and service providers, and help parents who do not have hearing loss learn about the deaf community. Find a specialist who serves your area.
Get help with the cost of hearing aids. Ask a DHHS Specialist, your parent advisor or ECI service coordinator for assistance if you need help with the cost of hearing aids. HHS Hearing Aid Information also lists programs that offer financial assistance to cover the cost of hearing aids, including a contact for getting help through your school district.
Get financial help for specialized telecommunications services and equipment. The Specialized Telecommunications Assistance Program (STAP) provides financial help through vouchers to help Texans who have disabilities get equipment and services for telecommunication from local vendors. Visit Voucher Values to see a list of available telecommunication devices.
